Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu, arrived in Ranchi to review preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand. The elections are expected to be held before December 2024, as the current government’s term ends in January 2025.

The Election Commission will hold meetings with political parties, government officials, and enforcement agencies during their visit. The election schedule is yet to be announced.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Hemant Soren-led JMM government, accusing it of injustice and corruption. Speaking at the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Sabha’ in Giridih, Shah urged the public to vote for the BJP, promising transformative changes for the poor, Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs. He also launched the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in Sahibganj, emphasizing the need for a government that supports farmers and creates jobs.

In 2019, the Jharkhand assembly elections were held in five phases between November 30 and December 20, with results declared on December 23.
