Chhattisgarh’s Sampoornata Abhiyan: Empowering the Pando Tribe

Introduction

In Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, the Pando tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), is benefiting from government schemes through the ‘Sampoornata Abhiyan’. This initiative, directed by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, aims to uplift the Pando community by providing essential services directly in their village.

Weekly Camps for Assistance

Every Wednesday, officials from various departments set up a special camp in Madanpur village to address issues such as revenue cases, Aadhaar updates, and Ayushman card creation. These camps also educate the tribal people about vaccinations, sickle cell anemia, TB tests, and other government schemes.

Community Impact

Anita Rathiya, a resident of Madanpur, expressed that the camps have been a boon, providing medical tests and medicines. Phoolsundari Pando, another resident, highlighted that the camps save them from traveling to district headquarters for documents.

Government’s Role

Surajpur Collector Rohit Vyas explained that the camps are inspired by the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and are conducted in all six blocks of Surajpur. A panchayat-level survey revealed that the Pando tribe was missing out on certain schemes, prompting this initiative. Approximately 20,000 families have benefited so far.

Goals of Sampoornata Abhiyan

Launched by NITI Aayog, the Sampoornata Abhiyan aims to achieve saturation in 12 key social sector indicators across 500 Aspirational Blocks and 112 Aspirational Districts in India. The campaign seeks to bridge developmental gaps, enhance quality of life, and foster sustainable development.
