On Saturday, Chhattisgarh Finance Minister OP Choudhary attended a pre-budget meeting in New Delhi. He presented several proposals to benefit the state, including special assistance, development of the State Capital Region, and rail network expansion.

Key Attendees

The meeting, held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary, and finance ministers from other states.

Proposals and Praise

Choudhary praised India’s economic progress and development in agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure. He highlighted the ‘Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment to States’ and urged maintaining the allocation at Rs 1 lakh crore to support ongoing projects.

Requests for Approval

Choudhary sought approval for a textile park and a medical device park in Chhattisgarh. He also requested funds for road maintenance in remote areas and the establishment of an Integrated Geriatric Health Center in Raipur.

Additional Requests

He urged for increased rates under Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana and Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana, support for international air services from Raipur Airport, and the establishment of Eklavya schools and Navodaya Vidyalayas in tribal and aspirational districts.

DMF Rules and Development

Choudhary requested changes to the new DMF rules to allow more flexible use of funds for development in districts surrounding mining areas. He emphasized the need for equal development in these regions.

Union Finance Minister’s Response

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded positively to the suggestions and assured more financial support for Chhattisgarh’s development and public welfare.

Finance Secretary Mukesh Bansal also attended the meeting.
