Chennaiyin FC’s Amazing Comeback Victory Against Odisha FC

New Delhi, India – Chennaiyin FC (CFC), a team with a rich history in the Indian Super League (ISL), has won the ISL Cup twice and topped the league in its inaugural season. The Marina Machans (CFC) have the fourth most wins in ISL history and have only scored fewer goals than Mumbai City FC and FC Goa.

On Saturday evening, Chennaiyin FC showed their strength by coming from behind to defeat Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium, ending Odisha’s 13-match unbeaten streak at home. This victory was powered by Farukh Choudhary’s two goals and Daniel Chima Chukwu’s first-ever ISL goal for the club. It was also Sergio Lobera’s first home loss as Odisha FC head coach.

Historic Wins

In 2015, under Marco Materazzi, Chennaiyin FC turned their season around with a 4-0 victory against FC Goa, thanks to John Stiven Mendoza’s hattrick. This win remains their joint biggest away win in ISL history.

In the 2015 ISL Final, Chennaiyin FC played as visitors at FC Goa’s home ground. Despite a late equalizer from Goa, Chennaiyin FC won 3-2 with a dramatic last-minute goal from Mendoza, securing their first ISL Cup.

In the 2018 ISL Final, Chennaiyin FC faced Bengaluru FC and won 3-2, securing their second ISL Cup. Despite an early goal from Sunil Chhetri for Bengaluru, Mailson Alves and Raphael Augusto led Chennaiyin FC to victory.

Memorable Matches

In the 2019-20 season, under Owen Coyle, Chennaiyin FC defeated Kerala Blasters FC 6-3 in Kochi. Rafael Crivellaro and Nerijus Valskis were key players in this match.

In December 2022, Thomas Brdaric’s Chennaiyin FC recorded a 7-3 victory against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati, with Abdenasser El Khayati scoring a hattrick.

In a crucial match to secure a place in the knockout stages, Chennaiyin FC faced Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Despite an early goal from Joni Kauko for Mohun Bagan, Chennaiyin FC won 3-2 with a last-minute goal from Irfan Yadwad, securing their place in the playoffs.
