Chennaiyin FC Signs Young Star Lalrinliana Hnamte for 2024-25 Season
Chennaiyin FC has added a new player to their team! They signed 21-year-old Lalrinliana Hnamte, a talented central midfielder, for a three-year contract. Hnamte is the third midfielder to join the club this summer, following Lukas Brambilla and Jitendra Singh. Last month, the club also extended the contract of Yumkhaibam Jiteshwor Singh.
Hnamte, who is from Mizoram, is considered one of the brightest talents in Indian football. He made his debut in the Indian Super League (ISL) at just 18 years old for East Bengal in 2021. Before joining Chennaiyin, he played for Mohun Bagan Super Giant for three seasons, winning the Durand Cup, the ISL title, and the League Shield.
Chennaiyin’s head coach, Owen Coyle, is excited about Hnamte joining the team. He said, “With the ability he possesses we haven’t seen as much of Hnamte as we should’ve in the league. He’s a fantastic young boy who will offer something different to our midfield options.”
Hnamte has played 43 matches in the ISL and has a passing accuracy of 83% in the last season. He has also scored two goals in his career, one of which was against Chennaiyin. Hnamte is thrilled to join the two-time ISL champions and said, “I’m very excited and grateful to be part of this amazing club and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans. I will give absolutely everything I have to help this team win.”
Chennaiyin FC has been busy preparing for the upcoming season, making 11 new signings and extending contracts for four players, including Ryan Edwards, Connor Shields, Jiteshwor Singh, and Samik Mitra.
