Chennai Metro Increases Train Frequency Ahead of Cyclone Alert

Chennai, located in Tamil Nadu, India, is preparing for a cyclone alert expected on October 15th, 16th, and 17th. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued this alert, prompting Chennai Metro Rail Services to increase the frequency of their trains to assist the public during heavy rains.

Train Schedule Adjustments

The first train will depart at 5:00 AM from all terminals, and the last train will leave at 11:00 PM. During peak hours, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, trains on the Green Line, which runs from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to St. Thomas Mount Metro, will operate every 5 minutes. On the Blue Line, connecting the Airport to Wimco Nagar Depot, trains will run every 6 minutes.

Temporary Service Changes

To accommodate the increased frequency on the Green Line, direct trains from Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to Airport Metro via Koyambedu and Vadapalani will be temporarily suspended. Passengers traveling to the Airport from the Green Line will need to change trains at Arignar Alandur Metro.

Schedules will return to normal based on weather conditions. Passengers are advised not to park their vehicles at metro stations prone to water stagnation, such as St. Thomas Mount and Arumbakkam.
