Chennai Faces Waterlogging After Heavy Rains: Congress and DMK Exchange Words

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, experienced heavy rains on Wednesday night, leading to significant waterlogging in various parts of the city. The rain started after 6 pm and continued late into the night, causing power outages and traffic snarls.

Political Exchange on Social Media

Sivaganga MP and Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram shared a news clip of the waterlogged streets with a cryptic message, ‘Race Road or Rain Road,’ tagging the Greater Chennai Corporation. This was a dig at the corporation, especially since Chennai had recently hosted the Formula Night races.

In response, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai questioned the ability to gauge the rain’s intensity from indoors, replying, ‘Earlier two bit trolls were making this noise. Asking why the rain water has not receded even when it was raining. Now A question to ponder, Will it be possible to gauge the intensity of the rain within the confines of a room?’

Mayor’s Inspection

Chennai Mayor Priya Rajan inspected the Perambur subway and surrounding areas affected by waterlogging. She also checked on the ongoing storm water canal construction works. Parts of Chennai’s Koyambedu area also faced waterlogging.
