Chennai Court Sentences Abdullah for Promoting Hizb-Ut-Tahrir Ideology
A Special Court in Chennai has sentenced Abdullah, also known as Saravana Kumar, to five years of rigorous imprisonment. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced this decision, stating that Abdullah was found guilty of promoting the divisive and violent ideology of the terrorist group Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (HuT).
Abdullah has been fined Rs 10,000 for offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act). The court determined that he had advised and incited others to commit unlawful activities.
The NIA’s investigation revealed that Abdullah attempted to associate with the banned organization to further its harmful activities. He sought support for HuT, which aims to establish a Caliphate by overthrowing democratically elected governments, including in India.
In 2021, Abdullah posted on his Facebook account, ‘Abdullah ibn Subramanian,’ with the intent to disrupt India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He aimed to promote disaffection towards the Indian Government and encouraged others to commit offenses against the State and public peace.
