On a rainy Friday morning, South African cheetah Gamini and her five cubs were seen playing and enjoying the monsoon showers at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, Sheopur. The playful antics of the cubs were a delightful sight.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav shared this joyous moment on social media, stating, “Together, they weave a timeless tale of familial harmony amidst nature’s seasonal embrace.”

Earlier, on March 10, Gamini gave birth to five cubs at Kuno National Park. This announcement was made by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav. He mentioned that the total number of Indian-born cheetah cubs has now reached 13. He praised the efforts of the officers and staff at Kuno National Park for providing a stress-free environment for the cheetahs, which led to successful mating and birth of the cubs.

In January, Namibian cheetah Jwala also gave birth to four cubs at Kuno National Park. Cheetahs were declared extinct in India in 1952 but were reintroduced through an ambitious project in 2022. Eight cheetahs from Namibia were brought to India under Project Cheetah, followed by twelve cheetahs from South Africa in February 2023. Despite some losses, the project has seen significant success, with a total of 26 cheetahs now residing in Kuno National Park.
