Chattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended a wreath-laying ceremony on Friday for Special Task Force (STF) jawan Bharat Lal Sahu, who lost his life in a Naxal attack on July 17 in the Tarrem area of Bijapur district. The Chief Minister also paid tribute by carrying the mortal remains of the jawan.

Details of the Attack

Chief Minister Sai explained, “The incident occurred on July 17. An IED blast in Bijapur left two of our STF jawans dead and four others injured. The four injured soldiers are now out of danger.”

The attack resulted in the deaths of Constable Bharat Sahu from Raipur and Constable Satyer Singh Kange from Narayanpur. The injured jawans are receiving treatment, and additional security forces have been deployed to the area.

State’s Response to Naxalism

Chief Minister Sai emphasized the state’s commitment to fighting naxalism, stating, “We have been fighting strongly against naxalism. We will end naxalism in the state soon.”

The police reported that the attack occurred during a joint operation involving STF, DRG, CoBRA, and CRPF teams from Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma districts. The operation was launched on July 16, 2024, based on intelligence about Naxal presence in the area.

Recent Anti-Naxal Operation

On July 17, security forces conducted a significant anti-Naxal operation in Wandoli village on the Maharashtra-Chattisgarh border, resulting in the deaths of 12 Naxals and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms.
