Charl Langeveldt Becomes Zimbabwe’s Bowling Coach, New Team Management Announced

Charl Langeveldt, a former South African pacer, has been appointed as Zimbabwe’s men’s national team bowling coach. He will be joined by his former compatriots, Ravish Gobind and Curtly Diesel, who have joined as strategic performance and strength and conditioning coaches, respectively.

Former Zimbabwe batter Stuart Matsikenyeri, who was interim head coach before Justin Sammons’ full-time appointment, continues as fielding coach. The Mhishi Committee of Inquiry, formed to analyze Zimbabwe’s failure to qualify for the T20 World Cup, approved all the appointments.

Zimbabwe, with almost their complete strength, was beaten by Namibia and Uganda in the Africa Region Qualifier in November 2023, leading to Dave Houghton’s resignation as head coach. Walter Chawaguta took over on an interim basis, followed by Matsikenyeri, who prepared the team for the Bangladesh series earlier this year before the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe lost the five-match T20I series 4-1, winning only the final game.

Zimbabwe Cricket has yet to finalize the appointment of the team manager. Zimbabwe’s next T20I series is against T20 World Cup champion India, starting July 6 at Harare Sports Club. The series will include five matches, with the last game on July 14.
