During a debate on the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi made comments about Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh that led to a political uproar. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu accused Channi of acting like a ‘traitor’ and misleading the country.

Congress quickly distanced itself from Channi’s remarks. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh clarified on social media that Channi’s views do not reflect the party’s stance.

Channi criticized the BJP-led government, alleging an ‘undeclared emergency’ in the country. He mentioned that Amritpal Singh, who is in jail under the National Security Act, is unable to represent his constituency. Channi also highlighted the lack of justice for the family of the late singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP leaders Giriraj Singh and RP Singh condemned Channi’s statements, accusing him of supporting divisive elements. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring emphasized that constitutional rights should be upheld for all elected individuals.
