Chandigarh PGIMER Doctors Protest for Justice in Kolkata Case

Doctors at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh are continuing their protest against the alleged sexual assault and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The demonstration has been ongoing for over ten days, with doctors demanding justice and the enforcement of the Central Protection Act.

The doctors have set up an ‘Open OPD’ at the protest site to treat patients, ensuring that those who come from far away or have serious ailments receive care. Some patients have expressed their support for the doctors’ actions, stating that the ‘Open OPD’ has been beneficial for them.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court formed a 10-member National Task Force, including Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals.

The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
