The North Eastern Railway confirmed that three people have died and twelve were injured in the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. Seven people are critically injured, while five have sustained minor injuries.

Pankaj Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Eastern Railway, stated, “The final update that we have as official figures is that three deaths have occurred. Seven more are grievously injured and five have simple injuries.”

He added, “Our main focus was on the restoration work and the railways were successful in that too. The coaches that derailed on the down line have been removed, and restoration work is going on at a fast pace. More than 800 workers are working there. Many machines are also working there. Train operations will start on the up-line soon.”

Aditya Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of North-Eastern Railway, mentioned that around 800 railway personnel are carrying out the restoration work, which is likely to be completed by the evening. Trains are currently running on diverted routes, and the upline will be repaired soon.

Notably, 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train from the front got derailed. After receiving the information, the medical team and senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER rushed to the site. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to investigate the rail derailment accident.
