The Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda station, resulting in two deaths and 20 injuries. Nine injured people were admitted to Babu Ishwar Sharan District Hospital, with three critically injured referred to Lucknow for further treatment. The remaining six are stable.

The Ministry of Railways announced compensation: Rs 10 lakh for families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for grievous injuries, and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries. A high-level inquiry and a Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry have been ordered.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with medical teams and officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway on-site. Uttar Pradesh’s Relief Commissioner stated that NDRF teams from Lucknow and Balrampur, along with five ambulances, were deployed for rescue operations. Additional ambulances and SDRF teams from three districts have been sent to expedite relief efforts.
