Chandigarh Blast: Police Investigate Explosion at Sector 10 House
Chandigarh Police are investigating a suspected pressure-type blast that occurred at a house in Sector 10. The explosion, which happened on Wednesday evening, damaged windows and flower pots.
Details of the Incident
Gopesh Malhotra, the homeowner, reported that a man threw the explosive from an auto. He said, “Yesterday, around 6 pm, a man came from an auto towards our gate. He had a packet in his hand, which I thought was a parcel. But then he threw that packet towards us. I asked him what it was but by that time it exploded. I ran after him but he fled away. I checked on my father to see if he was okay or not. We didn’t sustain any injuries.”
Gopesh’s wife, Ranju Kamal, added, “At around 5:30 or 6:00 pm, there was a blast outside my house. I was in the room. When I came outside, I panicked. There was smoke all around. My husband ran after the auto but he didn’t find anything. My husband and my father-in-law were sitting outside on the verandah.”
Police Actions
Police have registered an FIR under various sections of the Explosive Substance Act 1908 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. They have also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information leading to the arrest of two suspects involved in the blast.
Sub Inspector Lakhwinder Singh stated, “The CSFL teams will come. The investigation could not be completed yesterday because it was dark in the night… A three-wheeler has been recovered, but the accused are yet to be nabbed… The investigation is going on. Teams have been sent all over… The security has been deployed to safeguard the evidence… The family is fine. They have no issues with anyone. They reside in Australia.”

The SSP mentioned that the complainant saw two suspicious people near the residence, allegedly throwing a grenade-like object. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
