Champai Soren Resigns from JMM, Joins BJP
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has resigned from all posts and primary membership of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). This move has been described as a ‘big jolt’ for the party by BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo.
Reasons for Resignation
Pratul Shah Deo explained that Soren, known as the ‘Kolhan Tiger,’ faced humiliation within JMM, including being stopped from attending official functions and being forced to resign as Chief Minister. Deo stated, ‘How much humiliation can a tribal leader take?’
Impact on JMM
Deo believes that Soren’s resignation will significantly impact JMM, especially in the Kolhan region, which accounts for 14 assembly seats. He added, ‘JMM will be wiped out in the Kolhan region.’
Soren’s Future Plans
In a post on X, Soren confirmed his resignation and pledged to continue fighting for the rights of tribals, natives, Dalits, and other marginalized groups. He announced his decision to join the BJP, expressing faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Soren would officially join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi.
