Champai Soren Joins BJP, Vows to Develop Jharkhand and Support Adivasi and Dalit Communities
Champai Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and pledged to develop the state and support the Adivasi and Dalit communities. Soren, who resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on August 28, emphasized that the BJP is committed to the state’s development. He joined the BJP on August 30 in an event attended by prominent leaders.
The event was attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi, among other state BJP leaders. Soren stated, “BJP is the only party that has the intention to develop Jharkhand. BJP is the only party that can protect ‘Adivasi asmita’. We will work for the welfare of the Adivasi, indigenous people, and Dalits of the state. No one can stop the BJP from forming government in Jharkhand.”
Soren became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on February 2, shortly after Hemant Soren resigned before being arrested in a money laundering case. However, he stepped down in less than two months to allow Hemant Soren’s return following his bail. The state is preparing for an election to the 81-member legislative assembly later this year, with dates yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
