Chamoli Roads Reopened After Heavy Rains

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Alerts SDRF

The Nandprayag-Kothiyalsain alternate road in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, has been reopened for small vehicular movement after being cleared of debris caused by heavy rains. Officials announced the reopening on Saturday.

Earlier, the Badrinath National Highway was blocked at several points including Lambagad, Nandprayag, Sonala, and Barrage Kunj due to landslides. The Chamoli police informed the public about these blockages through social media, advising travelers to stay at safe places.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and district magistrates to remain on high alert. He also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during this period of heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several southern districts of Uttarakhand and an orange alert for other parts. A depression over northwest Uttar Pradesh is expected to weaken, causing scattered clouds and intense convection in southern Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

In Nainital district, continuous rain has closed roads, including the Haldwani-Sitarganj road, due to water overflow. Travelers are advised to take alternative routes. Meanwhile, the River Ganges is flowing close to the danger mark due to incessant rains in the hills.
