Chamoli Police Reopen Badrinath Highway After Landslide Blockage
The Badrinath Highway in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, which was blocked by debris at Pagalnala and Nandprayag, has been reopened for all vehicles, according to Chamoli Police. In a social media post, Chamoli Police announced, “The blocked road at Pagalnala has been opened for all types of vehicles.”
Earlier, the highway was blocked due to debris, but swift action from the administration led to its reopening. The district administration is also taking measures to relocate families in Uttarkashi due to continuous landslides from Varunaavat mountain.
Uttarkashi DM Dr. Meharban Singh Bisht explained, “There was a landslide here in 2003, after which comprehensive treatments were done. Now, after 2003, the landslide has occurred at a different point and caused some damage. Due to continued rainfall, rocks and debris come down with rainwater. We have taken precautionary measures to shift nearby families until the monsoon season is over. Arrangements have been made for their stay.”
He added, “As soon as the landslide occurred, we formed a technical team to survey the region. We sent reports to the administration and requested an advanced technical team, which includes experts and senior officials from various departments. They will monitor the situation, and we hope reasonable measures will be taken.”
