Chamari Athapaththu Joins Sydney Thunder for Three More Seasons

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has signed with the Sydney Thunder for the next three seasons of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Athapaththu, who played for the Thunder last season, scored 552 runs at an average of 42.46 and took nine wickets, helping the team finish in fourth place.

“Committing to Sydney Thunder for the next three seasons was an easy decision because I believe in the vision of this club, and I want to be part of its future success,” Athapaththu said. She added that her teammates are not just colleagues but friends who push each other to be better every day.

In previous WBBL seasons, overseas signings were contracted on a one-year basis, but Athapaththu was signed under the League’s new multi-year contract provision. Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland expressed his delight at the new signing, praising Athapaththu as both an exceptional player and person.
