Chalavadi Narayanaswamy Warns Congress on Shakti Scheme in Karnataka

In Bengaluru, Karnataka, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, issued a warning to the Congress government. He stated that the people would not remain silent if they felt deceived by the government, particularly concerning the Shakti scheme, which offers free bus services to women in Karnataka.

Narayanaswamy emphasized that the Congress came to power by promising such guarantees and warned that failing to uphold them could lead to the party being seen as betraying the people. He asserted that the public would fight back if they felt cheated.

His comments came after Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge advised party units to align their guarantees with their budgets to avoid financial strain. Kharge highlighted the importance of fiscal responsibility, warning that unfulfilled commitments could harm the party’s reputation and future generations.

Kharge mentioned that in Maharashtra, he advised against announcing too many guarantees without budget consideration, as it could lead to bankruptcy and public dissatisfaction.

Despite concerns, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy clarified that there would be no review or suspension of the Shakti scheme. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also praised Karnataka’s guarantee model, stating it serves as an example for the country and has been well-received by the public.
