CBI to Investigate Trainee Doctor’s Death in Kolkata
The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the death of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. BJP leader Locket Chatterjee welcomed the decision, stating it will reveal who is involved in the crime. She criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not taking action in similar incidents.
Chatterjee said, “A CBI inquiry has been ordered. We welcome this because we know that in all such incidents that have happened in West Bengal, no action has been taken by Mamata Banerjee. A daughter has been murdered in the RG Kar Hospital, a CBI investigation will tell us who is involved in this. Kolkata Police and the CID cannot do this. Because it is the police who lied in the beginning.”
BJP leader Shazia Ilmi also criticized the TMC government and demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee and the Health Minister. She questioned the protection of the accused and the non-functioning CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission (NMC) under the directions of Union Health Minister JP Nadda issued an advisory to all medical colleges to develop a policy for a safe work environment. The advisory emphasized the need for safety measures in various areas of the campus and the installation of CCTV cameras.
Earlier, Nadda met with a delegation from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which requested a thorough inquiry into the crime and measures to enhance the safety of doctors, particularly women. The victim’s family alleges she was raped and murdered, and the CBI will now handle the case.
