CBI Team Investigates UGC-NET Paper Leak in Nawada, Faces Local Resistance

A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) went to Nawada, Bihar, to investigate an alleged paper leak of the UGC’s National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET). The team was surrounded by locals during a secret raid on Saturday.

Incident Details

According to Nawada SP Ambrish Rahul, officers from the Rajauli police station rushed to the scene and brought the CBI team to safety. The CBI officials sustained minor injuries as the locals surrounded their cars. No arrests have been made yet, but an FIR has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Background

The CBI registered a case on Thursday against unknown persons for compromising the integrity of the UGC-NET exam conducted on June 18. The complaint was received from the Secretary of the Department of Education, alleging that the exam’s integrity was compromised based on inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit.

Exam Cancellation

The Ministry of Education canceled the UGC-NET exam conducted on June 18 due to these concerns. The exam was attended by 81% of over 11.21 lakh registered candidates in 317 cities across the country. UGC-NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
