CBI Investigates RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata Rape-Murder Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team inspected various areas of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Monday. This inspection is part of their investigation into a rape and murder case that has caused widespread outrage.
The CBI has received permission to conduct a polygraph test on the arrested suspect. On August 18, the CBI used 3D laser mapping in the emergency ward of the hospital as part of their probe.
The case has led to protests across many cities, with people demanding justice for the victim. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, will hear the case on August 20. Earlier, Calcutta High Court advocates held a protest march, and doctors from various cities, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Lucknow, also demonstrated.
In Kolkata, female police personnel tied Rakhi to doctors and medical students who were demanding justice. Football fans protested near Salt Lake Stadium, leading to the cancellation of a Durand Cup match. Junior doctors and students continued their protests at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9. On August 14, the protest site and hospital campus were vandalized, prompting police intervention. To maintain law and order, Kolkata police have imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, around the hospital from August 18 to August 24.
