The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The investigation has led CBI officials to the Police Morgue of the college.

Polygraph Tests Conducted

As part of the investigation, the CBI has conducted polygraph tests on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy. These tests were carried out by a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL).

Suspension of Dr. Sandip Ghosh

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended the membership of Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, amid the ongoing investigation. IMA National President Dr. RV Asokan stated that the decision was made after considering the grievances of the victim’s parents and various doctor’s associations.

CBI Searches and FIR

The CBI’s anti-corruption branch conducted searches at multiple locations connected to Dr. Ghosh and his relatives. An FIR was filed against Dr. Ghosh based on directives from the Calcutta High Court, which has ordered the CBI to investigate alleged corruption at the medical college.

Security Measures

The Supreme Court has ordered that the security of RG Kar Medical College be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) while the investigation continues.

Background

The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The investigation is ongoing, and the CBI is expected to submit a progress report to the Calcutta High Court by September 17.
