CBI Investigates Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Others for Allegedly Framing BJP Leaders
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh, former Home Minister of Maharashtra, and four others, including senior police officers, for allegedly framing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in false cases.
The investigation involves Pravin Pandit Chavan, the then Special Public Prosecutor of Maharashtra, Vijay Bhaskarrao Patil, Poornima Gaikwad, the then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and Sushma Chavan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). The case also includes other unknown public servants and individuals.
The case stems from a 2018 incident in Pune. Evidence suggests that Pravin Pandit Chavan conspired with Vijay Bhaskarrao Patil and Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh to register a false FIR at Nimbhora Police Station in Jalgaon. This was allegedly done to falsely implicate BJP leaders and others to gain control of the Jalgaon Zila Maratha Vidhya Prasarak Sahakari Samaj Limited, an educational institution.
Further investigation revealed that the FIR was later transferred to Pune, and statements and evidence were fabricated to support the false allegations.
