CBI Arrests Middleman in Tezpur for Accepting Bribe on Behalf of CGST Inspector
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a middleman named Aniket Pareek in Tezpur, Assam. He was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh on behalf of Rakesh Jangid, an Inspector of CGST, Tezpur.
Details of the Case
According to the police, the CBI registered a case on July 21, 2024, based on a complaint. The complaint alleged that Rakesh Jangid demanded Rs 5 lakh from a hardware store owner to ensure the smooth functioning of his business. The store owner was forced to pay Rs 2 lakh on July 12, 2024, as part of the bribe.
CBI’s Action
The CBI set a trap and caught Aniket Pareek red-handed while he was accepting the remaining Rs 3 lakh from the store owner. Following the arrest, searches were conducted at various locations, including Balipara and Tezpur in Assam, and Jaipur and Churu in Rajasthan. These searches led to the recovery of Rs 9 lakh in unexplained cash and other incriminating documents.
The investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
