Teams from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to investigate the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor. The investigation follows a Calcutta High Court order, and specialized teams have been sent from Delhi.

Union Minister Raises Concerns

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar expressed doubts about the circumstances surrounding the trainee doctor’s death. He noted the silence of women MPs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and mentioned that two TMC MPs and three MLAs are alumni of the same medical college.

Protests and Outrage

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests within the medical community. The National Medical Commission (NMC), under Union Health Minister JP Nadda, issued an advisory for medical colleges to develop policies ensuring a safe work environment.

OPD services at RG Kar Medical College remain closed as junior doctors protest. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has called for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services in solidarity.

Incident Details

The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The victim’s family alleges she was raped and murdered.
