Carlos Alcaraz Beats Tommy Paul to Reach Wimbledon 2024 Semifinals
London [UK], July 10: Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, defeated Tommy Paul from the United States in the Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinals on Tuesday. The match scores were 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2. Alcaraz will now face Daniil Medvedev from Russia in the semifinals, which is a rematch of last year’s semifinal where Alcaraz won and went on to claim the title.
In the match against Paul, Alcaraz struggled initially, losing the first set 5-7. However, he bounced back to win the next set 6-4 and continued his momentum to win the third and final sets 6-2, 6-2. Medvedev, on the other hand, defeated Italy’s Janik Sinner in a thrilling five-set quarterfinal with scores of 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3.
Alcaraz praised Paul’s performance, noting that he had a great season on grass and is the Queen’s champion. Alcaraz said, ‘He’s had a great season on grass, he’s the Queen’s champion and was playing well here. Today was a difficult match for me. The first set and the start of the second was like playing on clay, long rallies, 10-15 shots. When I lost the first set it was difficult for me but I knew it was a long journey. I’m glad I found the solutions.’
Alcaraz also expressed his confidence in making comebacks during matches, stating, ‘I always believe I can come back. If I’m struggling I believe I can find solutions. At grand slams, I have more time to recover. I believe in myself all the time.’
