Carlos Alcaraz’s Impressive Start

Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, 21, began his title defense with a strong performance against Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal. Alcaraz won the match in straight sets, 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-2. He expressed surprise at Lajal’s aggressive play but was happy to secure his first win on Centre Court this year.

Alcaraz, who defeated Novak Djokovic last year to win his first Wimbledon title, used his skillful drop shots and powerful groundstrokes to win the match. He will face either Australian Aleksandar Vukic or Mallorca finalist Sebastian Ofner in the next round.

Daniil Medvedev’s Return

Daniil Medvedev, the fifth seed, also had a successful start at Wimbledon, defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Medvedev, who reached the semi-finals last year, maintained his perfect record on Court No. 1. He will next play against Alexandre Muller.

Medvedev highlighted the challenges of Grand Slam matches, noting the difficulty of winning in straight sets, especially on grass where serving is crucial.
