Canopy Collapses at Rajkot and Delhi Airports
Incident at Rajkot Airport
On Saturday, a canopy at the passenger pickup and drop area of Rajkot airport collapsed during maintenance work. Fortunately, no one was injured. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is investigating the incident, and repair work is ongoing.
Incident at Delhi Airport
A day earlier, a canopy at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport partially collapsed due to heavy rains and winds. This incident resulted in one fatality and eight injuries. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has suspended operations at Terminal 1 and shifted them to Terminals 2 and 3. A technical committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the collapse.
Response and Compensation
Rescue operations were immediately launched by the Delhi Airport Emergency Response Team. The injured received medical assistance and were later transferred to hospitals for further care. DIAL has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each to those who sustained minor injuries.
