In a statement, Arya shared his experience of attending a Hindu event in Edmonton, where he required protection from RCMP officers due to a disruptive protest by Khalistani extremists. He highlighted that Khalistani violent extremism is a significant concern in Canada and urged law enforcement to address it seriously.
Arya mentioned that the RCMP’s national task force is focused on investigating this issue, acknowledging that extremism and terrorism transcend national borders. He called on law enforcement agencies to tackle the problem with the seriousness it demands.
The diplomatic relationship between India and Canada has been strained since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has denied these allegations, describing them as “absurd” and “motivated.” Nijjar, designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey last year. The situation escalated when Canada labeled India’s High Commissioner and other diplomats as “persons of interest” in the investigation.
