Calligo Technologies and SFAL Create Breakthrough POSIT Chip in Bengaluru
Calligo Technologies, a semiconductor start-up based in Bengaluru, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully creating a POSIT-enabled semiconductor chip. This breakthrough was made possible through collaboration with the Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL).
Since 2020, Calligo Technologies and SFAL have been working together, and this achievement marks a proud moment for both entities. Jitendra Chaddah, India head of Global Foundries and founding member of SFAL, highlighted the role of SFAL in developing semiconductor IP and product ecosystems in India. He credited the Karnataka government’s visionary leadership for supporting advancements in semiconductor technology.
The new POSIT technology is expected to enhance performance and accuracy in critical mathematical computations. It offers improved accuracy, network bandwidth, and storage utilization while reducing power consumption. This technology is particularly beneficial for applications in stock exchange computations, medical drug research, and artificial intelligence.
SFAL is an initiative aimed at developing and enhancing the fabless semiconductor and electronic systems ecosystem in India. It supports fabless semiconductor startups and encourages the creation and development of products and IPs from India. SFAL has been instrumental in enabling technology validation, collaboration, mentorship, and access to government policies and funding for several startups.
Supported by the Karnataka Information Technology Society and funded by the Department of Electronics, IT, Bt, and S&T of the Government of Karnataka, SFAL collaborates with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) to develop and enhance the fabless and electronics systems ecosystem in India.
