Building Collapse in Navi Mumbai: Rescue Operations Underway
A three-storey building collapsed in Navi Mumbai’s Shahbaz village on Saturday morning, trapping several people. Navi Mumbai Deputy Fire Officer Purushottam Jadhav reported that two people have been rescued and two more are likely trapped. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Kailas Shinde, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, confirmed that the building collapsed around 5 am and that the NDRF team is on site to assist with the rescue efforts.
This incident follows a similar collapse on July 20 in Mumbai’s Grand Road area, where parts of the balcony of a building named Rubina Manzil collapsed, resulting in one death and 13 injuries.
Continuous heavy rainfall in Maharashtra has caused significant disruptions, including waterlogging and traffic snarls in many cities, including Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Madhya Maharashtra on July 28.
