Building Collapse in Kargil Injures Seven, Rescue Efforts Underway
A two-story building in the Kabbadi Nallah area of Kargil collapsed early Saturday morning due to nearby excavation work. The incident, which occurred around 3:45 am, led to a swift rescue operation by the Indian Army, the Union Territory Defence Response Force (UTDRF), and local volunteers.
Seven people were trapped in the debris but were successfully rescued and admitted to the district hospital in Kargil. They are currently safe and receiving medical care.
The collapse has caused disruption in the area, with traffic from the National Highway being redirected to the bypass road. Senior officials, including Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Jaffer Akhoon, Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Bala Shib, and Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil acknowledged the incident as a substantial system failure and announced that a high-level committee would be formed to investigate the cause of the collapse. Those found responsible will face serious consequences.
