BSF Stops Smuggling in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya

The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya has successfully stopped several smuggling attempts. On September 29, the BSF’s 193 Battalion intercepted a truck and a bus at the Ranikor-Dangar T-junction in the East Khasi Hills district. These vehicles, loaded with edible items worth approximately Rs 43,00,000, were coming from Shillong towards the border area. The drivers could not provide valid documents for the vehicles and the items.

The five Indian nationals apprehended, along with the vehicles and seized items, were handed over to the Dangar Police Outpost. Last month, BSF Meghalaya thwarted other smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border, seizing cattle, contraband, and clothing items worth over Rs 16 lakhs.

In one operation, BSF troops of the 193 Battalion seized a large quantity of eatable and contraband items in the East Khasi Hills district. In another, the 4th Battalion rescued 12 buffaloes from the BOP Hawaitila border area. Additionally, the 200th Battalion seized a large quantity of clothing items being smuggled to Bangladesh.
