BSF Stops Gold Smuggling at India-Bangladesh Border, Arrests Tanmoy Mondal

The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully stopped a gold smuggling attempt on August 23rd at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. They arrested Tanmoy Mondal, a resident of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, and seized eight gold biscuits weighing 974 grams, valued at over Rs 71 lakh.

According to a BSF press release, the vigilant troops of Border Outpost Tarali-1, 143 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, acted on specific information and intercepted Mondal, who was riding a scooty. During the search, they found the gold biscuits hidden in a cavity in the scooty.

During interrogation, Mondal revealed that he received the gold from an unknown Bangladeshi national near Pachilghat, Hakimpur Biswaspara, on August 22nd. He was supposed to deliver the gold to another smuggler outside the Bithari market for a payment of Rs 4,000.

The BSF handed over Mondal and the seized gold to the customs office in Tentulia.
