BSF Meghalaya and Police Catch Bangladeshi Smuggler Near Border

The Border Security Forces (BSF) of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the local police, successfully apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler near the international border of East Khasi Hills district. The individual, identified as Mohd Mijan Mia, a 49-year-old resident of Sunamganj district, Bangladesh, was caught based on specific information.

During initial questioning, Mia revealed that he had been operating as a tout, facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India and engaging in smuggling activities. He has been handed over to PS Dangar for further investigation and legal proceedings.

On August 26, acting on specific information, BSF Meghalaya, along with local police, customs, and LPAI, seized contraband items such as silver ornaments, sarees, and mobile accessories worth more than Rs48 lakhs from the Dhaka-Shillong Maitri bus. Three Bangladeshi bus staff members were also apprehended.

Earlier, on August 22, vigilant BSF Meghalaya troops thwarted an infiltration attempt by apprehending four Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian facilitators at the international border of East Jaintia Hills district.
