BSF Cracks Down on Smugglers and Illegal Migrants in Tripura

IG Patel Piyush Purushottam Das Announces Enhanced Operations

The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its efforts to combat smugglers and illegal migrants in the state of Tripura. BSF Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das revealed during a press conference that additional manpower and advanced surveillance technology, including AI-enabled cameras and facial recognition tools, have been deployed.

Special operations have been launched to dismantle networks of touts and smugglers. The BSF has a ‘zero tolerance policy’ towards such activities, and field commanders have been instructed to conduct intelligence-based operations.

In the current year, the BSF has seized contraband worth Rs 29 crores and apprehended 198 Bangladeshi nationals and 12 Rohingya Illegal Migrants (RIMs). Narcotics and psychotropic drugs worth Rs 32 crores have also been confiscated.

During recent talks between BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from July 1-4 in Shillong, a list of Bangladeshi touts and criminals was handed over to BGB, which has promised to take action. Both forces agreed to enhance coordinated patrols and share real-time information to secure the border.

IG Patel Piyush Purushottam Das concluded that this multi-dimensional approach will ensure a safe and secure border in Tripura.
