BRS Leader K Kavitha Released from Jail After Supreme Court Grants Bail

New Delhi, India – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha walked out of Tihar jail on Tuesday after the Supreme Court granted her bail in the ‘excise policy case’ investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

K Kavitha’s Statement

After her release, K Kavitha addressed her supporters, stating, “We are fighters, we will fight it out legally and politically. They have only made the BRS and KCR’s team unbreakable.” She added, “The whole country knows this was a faulty case.”

Emotional Reunion

K Kavitha expressed her gratitude to her supporters and shared her emotional reunion with her family after five months. She said, “I became emotional after meeting my son, brother, and husband today. Only politics is responsible for this situation.”

Supreme Court’s Decision

A bench of justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan ordered her immediate release, imposing conditions such as not tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. She was required to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh each in both CBI and ED cases and surrender her passport.

Political Reactions

BRS Working President and Kavitha’s brother, Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, expressed relief on social media, saying, “Thank You Supreme Court. Relieved. Justice prevailed.”

Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticized the bail, suggesting a nexus between BRS and Congress. In response, BRS Working President KTR urged the Supreme Court to take cognizance of Kumar’s comments.

TPCC Working President Mahesh Kumar Goud also reacted, claiming the bail indicated a close nexus between BJP and BRS.

Background

K Kavitha was arrested by the ED on March 15, 2024, and by the CBI on April 11, 2024, in connection with the excise policy case. The ED and CBI alleged irregularities in modifying the excise policy, extending undue favors to license holders, and waiving or reducing license fees.
