BRS Leader Dasoju Sravan Criticizes CM Revanth Reddy’s ‘People’s Governance Day’

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 15: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Dasoju Sravan has criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his decision to commemorate September 17th as ‘People’s Governance Day’ (Praja Palana Dinotsavam). Sravan claims this decision mirrors the BJP’s political tactics of historical revisionism.

Sravan stated, ‘The Telangana government’s recent decision to commemorate September 17th as ‘People’s Governance Day’ under Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy has ignited suspicion about his hidden intentions. This date, which marks the merger of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union on September 17th, 1948, carries significant historical and political dynamics.’

He further added that various political forces interpret the day differently, but Revanth Reddy’s approach stands out for its inconsistency with the Indian National Congress’s traditionally balanced stance and its clear political opportunism. ‘His actions not only reflect a significant deviation from the Indian National Congress’s ideology but also strongly echo BJP’s political tactics of historical revisionism, which could have deeper consequences for both the present and future political narrative,’ Sravan said.

Sravan questioned if senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are aware of Revanth Reddy’s actions. He alleged that Revanth Reddy is attempting to exploit the historical festival by rebranding it and has invited prominent BJP leaders, which raises suspicions of a future alignment with the BJP.

Sravan highlighted the political context of September 17th, 1948, when Hyderabad State was integrated into the Indian Union through Operation Polo. He noted that while the BJP celebrates it as Hyderabad Liberation Day, the Communists call it ‘Telangana Betrayal Day,’ and the BRS marks it as Telangana National Integration Day. The Congress has historically called it Telangana Merger Day, acknowledging both the hardships under Nizam’s rule and the violence following the integration.

Sravan accused Revanth Reddy of forgetting his previous stance as TPCC President when he announced year-long celebrations of ‘Telangana Vilina Dinam (Merger Day) Vajrotsavalu’ in 2022 and demanded Rs 5000 Cr from the Government of India for the celebrations. Sravan alleged that Revanth Reddy is now dictatorially renaming and demeaning history.
