Brinda Karat Criticizes Mamata Banerjee Government Over Kolkata Doctor’s Tragic Case

New Delhi, India – August 19: Brinda Karat, a leader from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has strongly criticized the Mamata Banerjee government regarding the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata. She stated that the government’s credibility is zero in this case.

Karat accused Mamata Banerjee of trying to protect herself and hide the role of the accused. She mentioned that statements from TMC MPs are misleading and not addressing the real issues of the case.

Additionally, Karat commented on the summoning of TMC MP Sukhendu Shekar Ray by Kolkata police. She noted that Ray, who had raised questions about the police’s investigation, was immediately summoned by the police.

Ray had earlier posted on social media, calling for a fair investigation by the CBI and questioning various aspects of the case, including the demolition of a wall and the delayed use of a sniffer dog.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, also criticized the state government for failing to ensure women’s safety. He highlighted the irony of promoting women’s empowerment while failing to provide safety for women at night.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose echoed these sentiments, stating that Bengal is not safe for women and that the current government has failed them. He called for Bengal to return to a time when women had a respectable place in society.

The tragic incident occurred on August 9, when a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College, leading to nationwide protests by the medical community.
