Brinda Karat Criticizes Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s Actions
In New Delhi, Brinda Karat, a senior leader and Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), criticized Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. The governor had requested a report from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding remarks on anti-national activities. Karat stated that the governor’s actions were a violation of constitutional propriety, accusing him of acting in the interest of the BJP rather than as a constitutional ambassador.
On October 8, Chief Minister Vijayan sent a letter to the Raj Bhavan, asserting that the governor’s summoning of officials without informing the government exceeded his constitutional authority. This followed Governor Khan’s summoning of the Chief Secretary and DGP for explanations on remarks attributed to Vijayan about gold smuggling in Malappuram and related anti-national activities. However, the officials did not appear before the governor.
Previously, on September 30, a media report had attributed comments to Chief Minister Vijayan about gold smuggling, which his office later clarified were misattributed.
