Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Claims Congress Conspiracy Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India and a BJP leader, has reiterated his stance that the sexual harassment allegations against him are a conspiracy orchestrated by the Congress party. He specifically named former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda and his son Deepender Hooda as part of this conspiracy.

Last year, prominent wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat led a protest against Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexual harassment. Since then, Brij Bhushan has been facing these charges, and both the complainants and the Delhi Police have opposed his plea to quash the case on grounds of maintainability.

While addressing a rally in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, Brij Bhushan stated, “When allegations were put against me, I said that it’s a conspiracy by Congress, Deepender Hooda, and Bhupinder Hooda. I have said it earlier, the country is saying it today. Now, I needn’t say anything about it.”

Last month, the Delhi High Court, led by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, heard Brij Bhushan’s petition to quash the FIR filed against him by the Delhi Police. The FIR was based on complaints from several women wrestlers. The court observed that his petition seemed to be an attempt to overturn the entire case after the trial had already begun. The court questioned why Brij Bhushan chose to file a single plea challenging both the charges of framing and the proceedings, suggesting that this might be an “oblique way” to address the issue.

Brij Bhushan’s counsel, Advocate Rajeev Mohan, argued that the FIR and subsequent proceedings were motivated by a hidden agenda and sought to undermine Brij Bhushan. The court has directed Brij Bhushan’s counsel to submit a short note within two weeks, and the case is scheduled for further consideration on September 26.
