Brian Lara Backs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for India’s T20 World Cup Clash Against Bangladesh
Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara has expressed his confidence in India’s opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, ahead of their crucial ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights game against Bangladesh. Lara believes that the experienced duo will perform well during the match, despite their recent struggles in the tournament.
India vs. Bangladesh: The Stakes
India will face Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Saturday. India is currently in second place in Group 1 of the Super Eights, having won their game against Afghanistan and earning two points. Bangladesh, on the other hand, is at the bottom of the group after losing to Australia. This game is crucial for Bangladesh to keep their hopes alive, while a win for India will likely secure their spot in the semifinals.
Rohit and Virat’s Performance So Far
The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has not been at their best in the tournament. Rohit has scored 76 runs in four innings, including a fifty, while Virat has managed only 29 runs in four innings, with his highest score being 24. Despite this, Lara believes that they will come good in the upcoming match.
Lara’s Confidence in the Duo
Speaking to Star Sports, Lara acknowledged the threat posed by Bangladesh’s pacer Mustafizur Rahman but maintained that the experienced Indian duo would be too much for Bangladesh. He predicted that India would be 100 for no loss, whether they bat first or second.
Lara praised Rohit and Virat, calling them two of the best T20 players in the world. He believes that they will provide India with the much-needed momentum going into the knockout stages of the tournament. Lara also noted that the ongoing tournament has been more favorable to bowlers, but he expects the Indian team to fix their opening partnership issues against Bangladesh.
