Junior Commissioned Officer Jinosh Jayan from the Indian Army is actively involved in rescue operations in Wayanad, Kerala, despite losing four family members in a devastating landslide. His local knowledge and expertise as a surveyor have been invaluable to the rescue teams. He has been recognized for his efforts by senior police officials. A team of scientists is also inspecting the landslide-hit areas to assess the disaster and its risks.

Tragic Loss and Immediate Action

Jinosh Jayan, who hails from Chooralmala in Wayanad District, lost his uncle, cousin’s brother, cousin brother’s wife, and their 21-year-old daughter in the landslides on July 30. Despite the tragedy, his parents managed to escape to safety. Upon hearing about the landslide, Jinosh promptly requested emergency leave and joined the rescue efforts.

Invaluable Contributions

Jinosh’s local knowledge and expertise as a surveyor proved invaluable. He created hand-drawn maps that greatly aided the rescue teams in navigating the challenging terrain. Since August 1, he has been an integral part of the ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, tirelessly searching for more victims.

Recognition and Scientific Assessment

Jinosh has been commended by Additional Director General of Police MR Ajith Kumar and Inspector General MR Sethu Raman for his exceptional contributions. Meanwhile, a team of scientists led by John Matthai from the National Centre for Geosciences is inspecting the landslide-hit areas to assess the disaster and its risks. The inspection will continue until August 15.
