In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Bhat, who lost his life during an encounter in Anantnag district last September, has been awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. This is the second-highest peacetime gallantry award in India.

Family’s Pride

Humayun Bhat’s father, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, expressed immense pride in his son’s achievement, stating, “We are very proud of him. We are proud parents and we will continue to be proud of such achievement by our son.”

Tributes from Officials

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain shared his happiness and pride, highlighting Bhat’s bravery and the strong partnership between the Indian Army and JK police. GOC 15 Corps Rajiv Ghai also visited Bhat’s family to express gratitude and called Bhat an inspiration for future generations.

Independence Day Honors

On the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved 103 gallantry awards for armed forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel. The list includes four Kirti Chakras, 18 Shaurya Chakras, and various other medals.

Remembering the Fallen

Last September, an Indian Army Colonel, a Major, and DySP Humayun Bhat were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district. Their sacrifice is remembered and honored.

Independence Day Celebrations

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at Red Fort in New Delhi for the 11th consecutive time. The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
