BNM Warns of Increased Violence in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Due to Pakistan’s New Operation
The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has raised concerns over Pakistan’s new “Azm-e-Istehkam Operation,” warning that it will lead to more violence, including forced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. BNM spokesperson Qazi Dad Mohammad Rehan called for unity among oppressed nations and urged intervention from neighboring and global powers to prevent the anticipated bloodshed.
Rehan stated that Pakistan is a failing state where the military continues experiments to maintain control, resulting in more deaths and human rights abuses. He highlighted that Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership has decided to launch a new nationwide counterterrorism campaign amid the country’s deteriorating security situation and to address China’s concerns over recent attacks on Chinese nationals.
Rehan recalled the nuclear explosions conducted at Chagai in Balochistan on May 28, 1998, which caused widespread radiation effects. He mentioned that continuous military raids have displaced residents along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, with thousands living as refugees. The new operation, he warned, will lead to further destruction and displacement of the Baloch nation.
Since 2007, this is the twelfth major anti-Islamist terrorist military operation in Pakistan. Previous operations, such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fassad, focused on specific regions and terrorist networks. Rehan accused the Pakistani state of attempting to seize Balochistan’s coast and resources by altering its demographic composition and intensifying aggression whenever the Pakistan People’s Party comes to power.
Rehan emphasized the need for unity among oppressed nations and nationalist political parties, urging Baloch and Pashtun forces to unite against their common enemy. He expressed concerns that Pakistan would tighten its grip on Baloch refugees in neighboring countries and might shift its problems onto these countries to exert pressure. He warned that this could be an attempt to appease China, with negative consequences for the region.
Rehan called on neighboring countries to take a clear stand against Pakistan’s actions and engage in diplomacy to hold Pakistan accountable at the global level. He stressed that the peace of Balochistan and Pakhtunkhwa is essential for regional stability and prosperity, achievable only when oppressed nations regain ownership of their lands.
