New Delhi, India – BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Poonawalla accused Banerjee of manipulating evidence and showing ruthlessness in her actions.

Accusations Against Mamata Banerjee

Poonawalla questioned why Sandeep Ghosh, who was reinstated within four hours and later made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), was rewarded instead of being punished. He also mentioned that Kapil Sibal, the lawyer for the Bengal government, was seen laughing in court, which was inappropriate given the seriousness of the case.

Supreme Court’s Criticism

The Supreme Court criticized the Mamata Banerjee government for the delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR), stating that it had never seen such discrepancies in 30 years. Poonawalla accused the TMC government of trying to hide evidence rather than providing justice to the victim.

Protests and Legal Actions

BJP workers, including leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Agnimitra Paul, staged a protest outside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital but were later detained by Kolkata Police. Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached Kolkata High Court for permission to conduct a polygraph test on the hospital’s ex-principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, and four other doctors due to discrepancies in their statements.

Mamata Banerjee’s Response

In response to the national outrage, Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the central government to establish fast-track courts for sensitive issues to ensure speedy trials.
